“I was
competitive in track & cross country in school, and when a friend introduced
me to the joy of cycling, it was a natural transition and made for fun and
interesting summers.”
As a Cat 4 during 2005 and early 2006 Texas series races, Jason finished in
the top 10, and some 2nd and 3rd places at road races, crits, and time
trials, which led him to achieve his short term goal of upgrading to Cat 3
in Spring 2006. His long-term goals include upgrading to Cat 2 before age 35
and to coach more riders.
Jason’s first race was the 1988 Octoberfest 100 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. At
14 years of age, he was the youngest rider in the peloton -- the race was
100 miles, not kilometers! He changed his focus to running while in college
and graduate school, taking 11 years off from competitive cycling. He was
re-introduced to the sport in 2005, and have since dramatically increased
his fitness level. His knowledge of cycling exercise physiology and
training, and having the discipline to apply it is his greatest asset. He
prefers moderately hilly, smooth road courses on a cool day with an uphill
finish.

A Biomedical Engineer/Scientist at NASA, Johnson Space Center, and a
certified coach, Jason enjoys assisting a few other riders in achieving
their goals by conducting laboratory fitness tests and designing training
programs. He’s lived at many places while growing up, but calls Wisconsin
his hometown. In addition to cycling and running, he also enjoys rock
climbing, backpacking, downhill skiing, motorcycling, and playing guitar.
